EN 10305-2 welded tube
Welded cold drawn tube to EN 10305-2 in grade E235C. The seam is welded first and then drawn, so wall concentricity and bore quality come close to seamless tube at a lower cost. It suits machined parts, shock absorber bodies and general mechanical tubing where tight tolerances matter more than pressure rating.
Price: quoted per specification. Steel prices move with the raw material market, so every quotation is confirmed at the time of order.

EN 10305-2 against EN 10305-1
| Item | EN 10305-1 | EN 10305-2 |
|---|---|---|
| Starting material | Seamless hollow | Welded strip |
| Weld | None | Longitudinal, present in the finished tube |
| Cost at small sizes | Higher | Lower, and wall is more uniform |
| Pressure service | Preferred | Acceptable when the weld is tested and the standard allows it |
| Bore quality after drawing | Uniform | Good, but the weld zone behaves differently from the base metal |
The practical rule: below about 30 mm outside diameter the welded route is usually cheaper and gives a more even wall; above that the price gap narrows and the seamless tube removes any question about the weld.
What the draw does to the weld
Drawing after welding does three things: it sizes the outside diameter, it reduces the wall to the ordered thickness, and it pushes the internal weld flash down. It does not make the weld disappear. The heat affected zone is still there, and it responds differently to bending, machining and heat treatment. That is why the standard asks for the weld to be tested, and why a part that will be expanded or flared hard should be discussed before the order rather than after.
What to specify in the order
| Item | What to write | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Size | Outside diameter × wall, tolerance class | Sets price and what the mill can hold |
| Grade | E235C, or another grade on agreement | Decides yield and weldability |
| Condition | +C, +SR, +A or +N | Decides hardness and dimensional stability after machining |
| Weld | Flash removed inside; weld tested | Flash scores seals and ruins a honed bore |
| Tests | Flattening, drift, pressure | These are the tests that check the weld itself |
Packing and export
Welded cold drawn tube is thinner walled than seamless at the same size and dents more easily. Bundles are strapped with padded bands, ends are plugged, the surface is oiled and the bundle is wrapped. Certificates record the heat number and the weld test results, so the receiving inspection can match the bundle label to the document without opening every bundle.
Typical applications
- Shock absorber bodies
- Machined bushes and spacers
- General mechanical tubing
- Furniture and frame parts
Quality and packing: tubes are protected with anti-rust oil and packed seaworthy, in wooden cases where agreed. Each lot is tested for chemical composition, yield and tensile strength, flattening, elongation and dimensions, with visual inspection and NDT available on request.
